The coast of North Carolina with its paradise called the “Outer Banks” represents a sportsman’s nirvana. The eastern tip of the outer banks is where the famous Hatteras Lighthouse is and where anglers go for amazing surf fishing and super quick access to the gulf stream. Hatteras is loosely connected to the world via a ferry from the mainland and a ferry from Ocracok Garmin G1000e Island and from the North via the Bonner Bridge coming down from Nags Head and the Kitty Hawk area. Its a solid 5 hour drive from the capitol city of Raleigh located only about a 150 miles away due to the route, bridges and two lane beach traffic. This means anglers wanting a weekend fishing excursion have a 10 hour round trip in store.

I scheduled our departure for Saturday afternoon so I could have most of the day for other activities. By air in the Diamond DA40 XLT in air conditioned comfort we took off at 4PM on Saturday afternoon and arrive in less than an hour due to a very nice tail wind and efficient speed of the modern Diamond DA40. The anglers that drove there to meet us spent the day on the road and arrived well after us. The route is direct with with no restricted airspace in the way. The letdown from 7500 ft over the Pamlico Sound was a sight to see. We enjoyed a tour of the beach and Hatteras light at 500Fly Fishing feet as a treat since we were in no hurry to leave our perch that provided such a beautiful view of the islands.

This particular trip was for Cobia fishing something I’ve never experienced before. One difference is we don’t head out until 7AM since its a mid-day event with high sun used to help spot the large Cobia just under the surface. Once spotted the boat gets very active with our crew of six anglers trying to put their jig closest to the pack of fish. It was amazing to be able to watch the whole process unfold as the fish attacked the lures. Then the excitement begins! Imagine 3 to 6 guys all holding on to 30+lb fish moving all around and the guys trying to keep their fish from tangling with the guy beside him. It makes for some serious excitement. The first half of our day was a bit slow and we were starting to wonder if our haul would be less thanFly Fishing satisfactory when all of a sudden we came on a large school and literally every one of the guys was hooked up at the same time and several multiple times. The back of the boat exploded with flopping monsters being gaffed and brought in one after the other. Wow it was quite an experience. When the water settled we had our limit minus one so it was time to head for the dock.

The guys had told me that you did not catch Cobia trolling but I did not believe them so as we motor toward Hatteras point I kept my line out and WhaFly Fishingm! Something big got on. Compared to the rest of the day it had to be one of the biggest. The guys were all wondering what it was since surely you don’t catch Cobia trolling. After a fight that last for what seemed like quite a while finally we got the glimpse of one of the largest Cobia caught for the day. Once gaffed and pressed into the overflowing fish hold it was time to head in and we realized it was only 2PM and we were done! It was an amazing day and the best part was after a few shots at the dock with the fish we whisked off to the airport a few minutes away and about an hour later were on the ground headed for home in time for dinner with the family.

Flight instruments are the instruments in the cockpit of an aircraft that provide the pilot with information about the flight situation of that aircraft, such as altitude, airspeed and direction. They improve safety by allowing the pilot to fly the aircraft in level flight, and make turns, without a reference outside the aircraft such as the horizon.

Visual flight rules (VFR) require an airspeed indicator, an altimeter, and a compass or other suitable magnetic direction indicator. Instrument flight rules (IFR) additionally require a gyroscopic pitch-bank (artificial horizon), direction (directional gyro) and rate of turn indicator, plus a slip-skid indicator, adjustable altimeter, and a clock. Flight into Instrument meteorological conditions (IMC) require radio navigation instruments for precise takeoffs and landings.

Cessna Mustang Panel - The Citation Mustang has traditional flight controls including trim and autopilot for each axis. Dual pilot controls are provided through panel mounted yokes for aileron and elevator control and rudder pedals for rudder, brakes,and nosewheel steering. All primary control surface connections are mechanical using pushrod, bellcrank, sector, and stainless steel cable systems.

The term is sometimes used loosely as a synonym for cockpit instruments as a whole, in which context it can include engine instruments, navigational and communication equipment. Many modern aircraft have electronic flight instrument systems. Most regulated aircraft have these flight instruments as dictated by the US Code of Federal Regulations, Title 14, Part 91. They are grouped according to pitot-static system, compass systems, and gyroscopic instruments.

Cessna 172 Skyhawk Panel In 1976, Cessna stopped marketing the aircraft as the 172 and began exclusively using the "Skyhawk" designation. This model year also saw a redesigned instrument panel to hold more avionics. Among other changes, the fuel and other small gauges are relocated to the left side for improved pilot readability compared with the earlier 172 panel designs. Total production of "M" models was 7306 over the four years it was manufactured.

ADS-B “In/Out” for G1000 Integrated Flight Decks. Select G1000 equipped aircraft, either with or without WAAS, now have an elegant and simple path for ADS-B. A remote-mounted version of the GTX 335 or GTX 345 takes the place of the aircraft’s transponder and interfaces with either the aircraft’s existing WAAS position source or the optional integrated WAAS position source to meet worldwide ADS-B “Out” requirements. The G1000 display interfaces to the transponder to provide squawk code entry and control in the same manner as before. The dual-link GTX 345 provides the capability to display various ADS-B “In” benefits (G1000 software version dependent) on the Primary Flight Display (PFD) and Multifunction Display (MFD).

Pilots may view subscription-free weather¹, including NEXRAD, METARs and TAFs, on the MFD as well as ADS-B traffic targets on the MFD for aircraft equipped with Synthetic Vision Technology (SVT™) on the PFD. The G1000 flight deck for the D-Jet will be available as a three-panel system with two 10" primary flight displays (PFDs), a centrally located 15" multi-function display (MFD), FMS controller, glareshield mounted Autopilot Controller, and dual AHRS / GPS / Magnetometer sensor system.The Garmin G1000 is already being delivered on Diamond’s DA40-180 Diamond Star and the DA42 Twin Star.

The GTX 345 and GTX 335 transponders have received the FAA’s Technical Standard Order (TSO) authorization and are expected to receive supplemental type certification (STC) later this month for installation in hundreds of aircraft makes and models. The GTX 345 transponder provides ADS-B “In/Out” capabilities and is available with and without WAAS for a list price of $5,795 and $4,995, respectively. The GTX 335 ADS-B “Out” transponder is available with WAAS for $3,795 and without WAAS for $2,995. Remote-mount derivatives of the GTX 335/345 share pricing equivalent to the panel-mount transponders.
